Vanillin is considered a flavoring and fragrance substance with a pleasant vanilla note. The frequency of sensitization to vanillin is considered rare and the sensitization potency is considered low. In an illustrative risk assessment of cosmetic products containing vanillin, 0.5% vanillin was classified as safe. In Better Balm 0.33% vanillin was used, in Hypnotic Hues 0.16% vanillin was used(1).
