Potassium lactate is the potassium salt of lactic acid and is frequently used as an excipient in cosmetic formulations. In skincare, it also acts as a humectant, as it binds water and thus helps protect the skin from drying out. In addition, potassium lactate has skin-nourishing properties and promotes a pleasant skin feel. Thanks to its buffering properties, it also helps regulate and stabilize the pH of cosmetic products, which is important for the formulation’s tolerability and efficacy. (1)
