ECTOIN

Ectoin is a very special amino acid produced by bacteria that can survive under extreme environmental conditions such as extreme dryness, UV radiation or high salt concentrations. This ability to protect against stress can also be used for the skin.

Firstly, ectoine has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on the skin and increases skin resistance. (1-2) Ectoine is also particularly effective at moisturizing the skin by minimizing transepidermal water loss and thus preventing the epidermis from drying out.(2) Ectoin in a skin care cream can improve parameters of skin aging such as skin moisture, skin elasticity, and skin surface structure. (3) In cell studies, ectoin was even able to counteract UVA-induced skin aging at different cell levels. (3-4)
